Prayers for Bobby

Have either of you two seen, Prayers for Bobby?? It is such a good but really sad movie. My views were pretty much made up when I watched this movie but after seeing it made me really realize what growing up as a gay/lesbian whould be like in America.

Gay Marriage

Whether or not gay marriage should be made legal is a controversial topic in America today. The gay community argues for the same legal and equal rights as any other person. The right to marry whom they love and care for. If gay marriage was legalized in all societies the gay community would have the privileges attached to being married - the best known is a change in federal tax status. Gay couples by law would than be able to check the “married filing joint” status (Tumbull). On the other hand, some religious individuals and groups feel marriage is a religious sacrament or ceremony and feel that they will become at risk of having to violate their beliefs by being forced to marry same sex couples. In my view gay marriage should be legal in all states, because not only is it their right to have that choice as an American but it also comes with all the benefits of being married. Such as being able to speak for their partner when they are in the hospital and they can not or when two people are married, they have the benefit of being on each others insurances.

Legalizing gay marriages

Marriage is the civil rights for every individual, gay or straight. Many people believe that gays should have the same rights as straights do in their jobs, government benefits, and every other aspect of their lives except marriage. Why is that, because of religion or personal beliefs? In my opinion marriage is between two individuals that love each other, same-sex or not. Therefore legalizing gay marriages would only allow gays to have the same rights straight individuals do in making important health decisions, raising children and financial. Today our economy is in crisis and with legalizing same-sex marriages will not only boost the revue with "noticeable economic benefit" to our state instead of those couples traveling to another state to get married.(Welch) I am for legalizing gay marriages because I think every individual should all have the same rights. Being able to get married I think is mainly about the benefits that come with marriage. I don’t think that as little boys, gay men sat down and dreamed about their perfect wedding or that legalizing gay marriage will change anything drastically other than the lives of those who would then now be allowed to wed. I don’t believe the government should be permitted to make these important decisions. It should be left up to the individuals involved. If marriage is a huge issue than the government should find another option for gay men and lesbian women to choose where the same benefits that marriage gives straight people would then be allowed to homosexuals. It is the government’s job to protect the livelihood of all the citizens within their country and to ostracize gay men and women like this is the real issue and not what allowing same-sexed couples to marry would do to the sanctity of marriage. People can’t be all that worried about the sanctity of marriage when annulments and divorce are allowed.

Gay Marriage

I myself don't have strong lean towards gay marriage or have strong feelings for or against it. It doesn't get involved with me because I am not gay. Just because I don't care for it doesn't mean I think it is right. From religious and personal beliefs I think it is not what humans are intended to live by. I believe that each man is intended to marry a woman that they fall in love with. It doesn't bother me that people are gay and that gay's marry each other. The reason I am not against it is because it isn't a choice the person has. I believe they are born the way they are and it is something that is unchangeable for them. I feel it's wrong for people to look down upon gays because they have different thoughts than the majority of the world. They may be different in a small way but I don't think it's a reason to be so negatively against them. My reason for this is because it won't affect me in any way. I do think that the news and media are a major problem for gay marriage. It seems they only like to show the negative things about gay marriage, or when something bad happens. A huge problem is that people like what the media does. They make issues look interesting even if it is wrong to do for the viewers. This is how I simply feel about gay marriage.
